Raising Boys

What a decade for my mom. Having remarried in October 1960 after loosing a 2 month old baby and her husband with in 4 months of each other in 1959 I would assume that she was looking forward with a bit of optimism.

These photos were obviously damaged in the flood.
Mike and Kevin came to live with us in 1964.

Aftermath of the January 1969 flood that destroyed our house. Surely a life altering event.

Christmas Morning 1969 back in the house.

This is an interesting photo to me if you know my mom. My mother has always made Christmas a special occasion. One of the ways she did that was through beautiful wrappings. Mom always makes sure that Christmas morning is a showcase. Although I'm sure Christmas was special before 1969, because of the flood of January that year, Christmas must have been extra special. Although the house was not completely done, we were in it, we were a family and we had survived. Look at the flood photos and remember, this photo was taken just 11 months after the entire house was flooded.

Mom didn't realize why my dad had taken this photo of her when we spoke about it. Can you imagine how YOU would feel had you lived through that decade of boys. She deserved a rest.
